Abstract

Indian economy and the education system provide students with innumerable opportunities wherein they can showcase their talents and achieve success. The educational arena is no more limited to few primitive courses that were offered under the brolly of arts, science and commerce. It gives chance to students to prosper in the fields of their own interest. Students’ career interest is often influenced by many socio-cultural factors. Socio-economic status is one of the deciding factors of their career preferences. This research project had been an endeavour to ascertain the relationship between secondary school students’ career interest and their socio-economic status. The career cluster interest inventory and the socio-economic status inventory were used to measure the career interest of students of STD, IX of SSC board of greater Mumbai. The findings revealed that socio-economic status does play a substantial role in child’s career selection and interest.
