Abstract
The whole education system is assessed on the basis of the teacher’s input and the student’s output i.e. the quality of the teaching learning process. Teachers are constantly involved in this process, but looking into the present scenario with the development of science and technology, the position of English as a global language that has opened new horizons for the learners. In order to fulfill the diversified needs of the learners and to cater to the need of the time, teachers need something more to be given from other reliable resources. Thus, teachers can get this nourishment by attending seminars and training programmes at regular intervals of time for the acquisition and planning of innovative and latest informative knowledge, to face new challenges to cater to the future needs. Training programmes are put forth to enhance the teacher’s potential skills and bring out qualitative development in the teaching learning process.
This paper is an attempt to depict how the Karmyagi Training Programmes have been implemented since 2003 with the implementation of the new textbooks by the Gujarat government. Its main focus was on the improvement and enhancement of quality and to update the knowledge and skills of the secondary teachers of English since the year 2003.
The in-service training programmes was a new concept to train the teachers, as there had not been any training programmes organized for the secondary teachers of English. It had its own aims and objectives as well as its merits and caveats. Scrutinizing the present level and standard of the learners of the Panchmahasl district of Gujarat, so after almost a decade, I felt it is high time to measure the efficacy of these training programmes.
Thus, an attempt is made by the researcher as being a Resourse Person, a trainee teacher and firsthand experience of himself and his colleagues about it to reflect and introspect as to what is gained and what can still be rectified in this direction for the welfare of the learners.
