Abstract
The present paper elicits the causes of destituteness among children. There are groups of children who come from disadvantaged group of society as slum dwellers, rural habitats, urban habitats and hill people. In addition to these groups, there is a group of children who are socially, economically, culturally and parentally deprived and are called destitute. Being deprived of parental care and familial protection, all such children are kept in destitute homes and suffer from environmental deficiencies in many ways. In destitute homes, they lack immediate surroundings, locality and neighbourhood. They are unfortunate not to have social climate within the home where the child spends most of the impressionable years of his life, leading to unhealthy mental, moral or social growth. Keywords: Destitute home children.
