Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of self-learning material (SLM), E-content and power point presentation (PPT) with Lecture and to find out the most effective one among these instructional strategies. The study used experimental method under which the non-randomized control group post-test design was employed. Experiment was conducted on 57 students of B.Ed. program selected through cluster sampling. Four B.Ed. sections (tutorial classes) were selected randomly from the total eight sections of a University which constituted three experimental groups and one control group of 19 students each. Two lessons were prepared under each method which covered equal amount of course contents in SLM, E-content, PPT and Lecture. The content was taught to each of these groups using one of these methods for two consecutive days each. The results with respect to the effectiveness of various instructional strategies on academic performance of the students indicated that there was no significant difference in the effectiveness of: SLM and Lecture Method, PPT and Lecture Method, SLM and E-content, E-content and PPT, and SLM and PPT, whereas there existed significant difference in the effectiveness of E-content and Lecture Method. It shows that the instruction through E-content, PPT and SLM had similar effect on the academic performance of students. Amongst all these methods, E-content was found to be relatively most effective instructional strategy to bring out higher academic performance in the B. Ed. students.
