Abstract

Cognitive Approach speech language therapy is based on the cognitive approach of speech and language development. Neuropsychological assessment has an important role in the diagnosis, treatment, speech and language training, and education of hearing impaired children. Different methods of speech and language therapy can make use of the different neuropsychological aspects. The survey cum experimental method with one group pre-test post-test design was selected for the study. The sample consisted of 32 primary residential school students with Hearing Impairment. The tools used are Intelligence test, Social Maturity Scale (Nagpur adaptation), Anecdotal Record, Neuropsychological Cognitive Inventory, and Cognitive Approach of Speech and Language Therapy. Early introduction of a suitable method of speech therapy, preferably cognitive method will improve the neuropsychological functioning as well as adaptive behavior of hearing impaired children. This method can improve the neuropsychological functioning of hearing impaired children which in turn improves academic capabilities.
