Abstract
Teachers ability to deal with emotional problems is a powerful factor in moulding the minds of the young children.. A teacher who is able to carry out reasoning with regard to emotion and uses emotions to enhance reasoning will succeed in developing the emotional intelligence of pupils. An emotionally competent teacher is the heart and soul of any educational programme. As the student teacher is at the threshold of entering the career of teaching, it is highly desirable that they understand their levels of emotional intelligence so that they can effectively interact with the students. This article is an attempt to assess the Emotional Intelligence of B.Ed. trainees. A sample of 180 pre-service teachers that consists of 90 married and 90 unmarried have been chosen for the study, following stratified random sampling method. Descriptive Survey method has been adopted. The study has revealed that the medium of instruction has significant influence on emotional intelligence, whereas age doesn’t have any influence. The findings only indicate that there is no significant difference in the emotional intelligence of married and unmarried B.Ed. trainees.
